SmartShipping – Singapore Shipping

Next month sees the shipping city of Singapore get smarter. SmartShipping, the NHST event returns for its second year on October 18, promising to bring together some of the industry’s most creative thinkers to address, well, the pressing topics of the day.

If that doesn’t sound too different from the regular run of the mill think again. SmartShipping looks at issue of investment and cyclicality, the regulatory drivers and the options for environmental and economic optimisation but with a twist.

Rather than spend the day on these subjects, the topic moves on to money and investment, supply chains and operations – the whole gamut in fact, with a bent towards technology and communications as enablers of the wave of change that is sweeping the industry.

And there are some top line speakers too, including Cargill’s Jonathan Stoneley, Vale’s Gurinder Singh and Maersk Maritime Technology’s Bo-Cerup Simonsen. They are joined by Masterbulk’s Rune Steen, Thome’s Carsten Ostenfeld and NYK Shipmanagement’s Hemant Pathania among others.

The usual presentations are supplemented by panels and more discussion than the average shipping conference can manage, attracting professionals specialised in ship design and optimisation but with a focus on sustainability, efficiency, the environment and compliance.

And you can get involved too – take the SmartShipping survey and let the organisers know which are the most pressing issues facing the industry today and how they can be tackled.

More posts coming as we talk to some of the speakers and contributors but you can see the full programme here and register online here.
