What we do

Mariner Communications was founded in 2009 by Neville Smith, to provide a bespoke solution to public relations and media communications for the maritime industry.

Today, the company works for some of the industry’s best-known organisations, including

  • the world’s biggest classification society by orderbook,
  • the largest global distributor of digital navigation charts,
  • the leading broker of dry freight derivatives,
  • one of the best-known brands of marine coatings,
  • the largest global provider of port agency services,
  • two of the most innovative providers of maritime communications and software.

Client locations range from the United States, the UK, Norway and mainland Europe, the Middle East, India, Singapore and China, with clients that include industry associations and bodies that support seafarers and shipping professionals world-wide.

The Mariner Communications philosophy is founded on listening to client needs and putting in place a communications programme that exceeds those expectations. We believe that our clients know their business best and that we can help them most effectively by developing managing and protecting their reputations with the media.

Using both new media and traditional channels, Mariner Communications creates opportunities with the maritime press that put our clients’ interests in front of the right audience every time.
With more than a decade and half of frontline maritime journalism experience across a range of industry titles, Neville is able to leverage long term media relationships to deliver coverage and awareness with the most relevant publications.

Our services include the planning and development of messaging and positioning on behalf of clients, as well as the delivery of proven strategies that reflect established brands and cultures.

Both planned and ad hoc requirements are fulfilled globally or regionally, including management of all media contacts and requests, content generation and delivery, website and social media channels, conference and event support.

Media training programmes are available for senior management and company spokespeople, including group training and one to one sessions. Live events including planning, management and delivery of product launches, media tours, seminars and press conferences are also provided.

Commercial services, including planning and execution of advertisement campaigns can also be arranged, offering significant advantages over the direct booking process.
